I remember when I wanted to make a website a few years ago.
I looked at everything I had to do for that. It was not easy indeed. People had to learn html, use frontpage, and WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) was far from being what it is now.
So I did not do any. It was too hard, too difficult and too time-consuming.
Now, it only takes one or two hours to make a complete website, with no prerequisite coding knowledge. Yesterday, with Weebly, it took me only two hours to complete a website with a cool video from animoto (without meaningful content, but yet a website with a blog that resembled what I had in mind).
Now, I wonder, who needs those web agencies? OK, we still need SEO (Search Engine Optimizers) and some consulting or customizing when the interface or the database application are touchy.
A quick and dirty website for a small company shouldn’t cost more than 200 euros if no real added value is given (Excellent design is priceless, I’ll settle for >Good). I can’t believe they make you pay if you want to change the content or add a few pictures.
People are still uninformed, but so many people will propose website creation which is a real commodity that the prices wil really be driven down. (and design can be taken from free CSS templates).
I believe that the flexibility given by those new website creation tools, will help new generation of entrepreneurs adressing the world for a very low cost.
Now the gap between supply and demand on internet is narrowing. And when I look at the top performing website in all the niches in France, I really believe that the market hasn’t still applied Web2.0, although everyone is always talking about it.
If someone like me can make a website, anyone can. Anyone with a bit of patience can really outrank what’s already there in the market, now that knowledge is not provided but aggregated.
Creating momentum. That’s the new challenge.
Geeks are working on media convergence, Businessmen are working on creating that community momentum. And if it’s not growing, it is dying.
